POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the WRUC Program Manager, the WRUC Program Specialist supports LOSH staff in course coordination, training activities, and development of education materials under our hazmat and environmental health worker training grant. Assist with course registrations, invoicing, certificates, and other paperwork. Respond professionally to written and phone inquiries from potential trainees, employers, partners, and members of the general public. Support LOSH trainers in preparing and submitting course materials and preparing supplies for upcoming courses. Maintain inventory of training equipment and supplies. Provide logistical support to trainers during course sessions. Summarize course evaluations and assist with trainee follow up. Assist LOSH staff with maintaining LOSH technical and regulatory library, online factsheets, and in-house education resources. Participate in project planning and debrief meetings. Other tasks as assigned.


Department Summary

The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program is dedicated to promoting worker health, safety, and wellbeing, and building capacity for workers and worker organizations to take action to improve working conditions. LOSH offers high-quality training and education, participatory action research, policy analysis, and worker leadership development to advance worker rights and protections. LOSH is a unit of both the Institute for Research and Labor and Employment (IRLE) and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH).


Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Support Training Coordination and Logistics

Assist individuals with course registration. Manage the HAZWOPER email and phone line. Follow up with course registrants regarding enrollment confirmation, invoices, payments, and other course logistics. Generate and distribute student rosters to instructors. Work with student assistants to prepare course paperwork, supplies and materials. Participate in HAZWOPER and related courses to assist trainers and participants, including technical support during virtual training sessions. Help transport materials and equipment to and from training sites. Serves as backup for scheduling consultant-instructors and/or staff to teach upcoming courses. Generate course certificates and identification cards for course participants. Maintain inventory of training equipment and supplies.

Support Education Materials Development and Evaluation

Participate in project planning meetings regarding development of outreach materials, education materials and training activities. Gather and organize background materials on hazardous materials, emergency response, construction safety, and related topics to support materials development. Summarize and share course evaluations with staff. Assist with participant follow up to document impacts of training. Provide general support for LOSH staff, partner organizations, and consortium partners on new and ongoing hazmat and environmental worker-related initiatives. Monitor state and local news regarding hazmat and environmental worker-related incidents in the Western Region, and inform LOSH staff of findings.

LOSH Program Activities

Participate in LOSH staff meetings, brown bags, in-service trainings, and other staff-wide activities as recommended by supervisor. Participate in meetings of the LOSH hazmat and environmental worker training team. Assist with disseminating information about LOSH training via social media platforms. Other duties as assigned.
