POSITION SUMMARY

Under the coordinated supervision of the Associate Director of Social Sciences Center for Education, Research, and Technology and the Computer Resource Manager of the Department of History, provides day-to-day instructional and user computer support for staff, faculty, and graduate students of the Department of History. Responsibilities include planning, maintaining, upgrading, troubleshooting and providing basic user training for departmental computer systems hardware and software based upon changes in technology and evolving user needs and requirements; administering, coordinating and working jointly with other SSCERT back-end technical staff to establish, maintain and resolve complex network technical problems involving the sub division network, email systems, mailing lists and the departmental websites.

Hardware/Software Installation, Support & Maintenance

Set up and maintain hardware including PC and Mac computers, printers, mobile devices, etc. Connect hardware to SSC network.Install and upgrade departmental computer software as necessary partially using deployment tools such as BigFix, Intune, JAMF, etc. Evaluate existing hardware & software in relation to system and security requirements. Provide technical support for applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Campus Security Suite, Adobe, Google Apps, Box, Outlook, HTML, etc. Attend training for campus-wide systems and provide support for them. Recommend software, hardware & related equipment to users in line with departmental and campus policies. Maintain appropriate contacts with hardware and software vendors to be aware of software & hardware availability & upgrades

Instructional & User Computing Support

1.Ensure the graduate student lounge is secure, functional and accessible for History graduate students. 2.Develop and offer one-on-one and/or small group user training sessions for the general use of software. 3.Support and assist faculty in using instruction-related software such as Canvas.4.Provide instruction on connecting to the UCLA Wireless network. 5.Instruct department users on new software and hardware. 6.Provide information to users on use of networks inone-on-one consultations. 7.Serve as departmental computer support coordinator, staying current with campus networking and computer issues and updating all departmental concerns to SSCERT. 8. Facilitate user access to campus IT services.

Systems Operation, Management & Security

1.In consultation with the Associate Director and Department of History IT Manager develop and maintain a strategic plan for Update this plan annually and implement accordingly. 2.Ensure department security by protecting software licenses, establishing system security checks and maintaining appropriate user account authorization. 3.Maintain policy and procedural documentation on departmental computer equipment and systems. 4.Maintain current and historical records on department owned hardware and software. 5. Regularly coordinate the disposal of obsolete or broken equipment in a secure and responsible manner. 6.Maintain login accounts for the department networks, and printers. 7. Record and track work assignments using the SSC Ticketing System.

Maintenance of Department Website & Other Resources

1. Assist in the maintenance of departmental website. 2. Maintain electronic mailing lists and ensure they are kept current. 3.              Assist the Department of History front office in maintaining copying and printing resources for the History graduate students.
