POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the School of Education & Information Studies (SE&IS) User Support Group Manager, the incumbent will provide desktop user support to faculty, staff and students. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting users with their workstation hardware, operating system and software including email, network stored files, and printing. Duties will include installing, updating and troubleshooting desktop hardware and software for all operating systems in use at the school. This position will be responsible for the security of the workstations and other devices connected to the network including security updates and other routine maintenance. This position will maintain a broad range of applications.

The Deans Department at the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies (Ed&IS) serves as the administrative hub responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, academic programs, faculty affairs, student services, and overall operations within the school. Desktop User Support and Workstation Management

1. Create, update and deploy workstation images containing operating systems and standard set of applications for Windows and Mac OS computers.

 

2. Install and operate enterprise level, network based imaging software deployment platform for both Windows and Mac OS platforms.

 

3. Install, operate and maintain projectors and audiovisual devices including wireless media streamers used in all classroom and conference room locations.

 

4. Install and configure enterprise wide backup software. Ongoing monitoring of backup jobs to ensure proper backup is complete and remediate issues.

 

5. Operate enterprise wide patch management system to monitor and remediate security vulnerabilities for all operating systems and applications installed on workstations and servers.

 

6. Provide technical support to faculty and staff for workstations including operating system and installed software; Microsoft Office, Adobe Suites, Statistical Analysis and other software required.

 

7. Set hardware standard for use in the school for both desktop and mobile platforms.

 

8. Install, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade of workstations, both Apple and Windows based PCs.

 

9. Install, update and troubleshooting operating systems, IP networking and other installed software on all workstations.

 

10. Keep operating system and applications in compliance with security standards as defined by UCLA and Ed&IS polices.

 

11. Install and configure network and local printers and copiers as well as other computer peripherals.

 

12. Maintain the database used for the IT device lending program as well as the maintenance of all equipment used in the lending program to Ed&IS users including laptops, projectors, cameras, microphones, video conference equipment and other peripherals.

 

13. Configure university owned mobile devices to access available UCLA resources.

 

14. Provide consultation to users for hardware and software needs, making recommendations as needed.

 

15. Provide formal and informal training to users of the proper usage of systems and applications as needed or requested.

1. Provide training to faculty and staff with regard to the use of software and classroom technology as needed.

 

2. Research emerging computing technologies and stay abreast of current trends. Make recommendations for the future direction of the school based on research.

 

3. Advise Ed&IS IT group of any new or ongoing security threats with regard to networking, operating systems or other related areas.

 

4. Represent the IT interests of Ed&IS at relevant meetings, committees and events.

 

5. Keep current with emerging trends in technology and advice IT group of any recommendations for future direction.

IT Purchasing

1. Prepare Purchase Order Requests for computer, software, and technology purchases for Ed&IS faculty and staff.

 

2. Support the creation and maintain external reference guides and internal instruction guides for IT and software purchasing. 

 

3. Maintain purchasing documentation for historical and reference purposes.
