POSITION SUMMARY

As a member of SSCERT, responsible for user support for Faculty, Staff and Students for the Economics Department. Duties include but are not limited to management of the instructional computing lab, hardware and software installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance, Faculty and Staff consultation and training, and Network troubleshooting and maintenance of the department's web server and for all other instructional computing support. This is a full-time, on-site position based in the UCLA Department of Economics.


Department Summary

As a member of SSCERT, responsible for user support for Faculty, Staff and Students for the Economics Department. Duties include but are not limited to management of the instructional computing lab, hardware and software installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance, Faculty and Staff consultation and training, and Network troubleshooting and maintenance of the department's web server and for all other instructional computing support.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in the UCLA Department of Economics.

A1. Install and configure computer hardware and software for faculty, staff, TAs, and labs, or oversee assistants performing these tasks. (E)

A2. Troubleshoot and resolve computer and network issues; consult IT Manager and SSCERT as needed. (E)

A3. Repair and upgrade departmental hardware. (E)

A4. Maintain an ongoing upgrade plan for departmental systems. (E)

A5. Keep equipment and software inventory current. (E)

A6. Advise IT Manager on workstation conditions and upgrade needs. (E)

A8. Install and maintain UC/campus-mandated security and compliance agents. (E)

B1. Maintain and update the department website using WordPress CMS. (E)

B2. Assist IT Manager with server logins, permissions, and print queues. (E)

B3. Restore files from backups as needed. (E)

B4. Configure network connections and client software. (E)

B5. Create and update user guides and FAQs for departmental systems. (E)

B6. Advise faculty/staff on hardware, software, and compatibility. (E)

B7. Share updates on available IT services and tools. (E)

B9. Communicate with SSCERT and attend monthly DTA meetings. (E)

Instructional Computing Support

C1. Manage hardware and software for graduate computing labs; implement security for shared systems. (E)

C2. Provide AV setup and support for events, seminars, and workshops, ensuring reliable hybrid or in-person delivery. (E)

C3. Complete complex instructional computing projects beyond lab assistants’ scope. (E)

C4. Support faculty and TAs in instructional technology, websites, and classroom materials. (E)

C5. Assist IT Manager in automating collection of instructional data. (E)

C6. Support faculty and TAs using Bruin Learn (Canvas), multimedia, and instructional software. (E)

Experience supporting Windows 11, MacOS, and Linux systems, including setup, troubleshooting, and updates.

Knowledge of network configuration and troubleshooting for wired, wireless, and VPN environments.

Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and other enterprise tools.

Knowledge of and experience in installing, maintaining, upgrading, and repairing computer hardware and peripherals for a large user base.

Experience with web design and content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and awareness of campus-wide computing services.

Knowledge of current hardware, software, and endpoint management technologies (e.g., Intune, Jamf).

Experience developing workflow automations using tools such as Qualtrics or Microsoft Power Automate.

Familiarity with AI and large language model (LLM) platforms (e.g., OpenAI GPT, Microsoft Copilot) and their applications in IT support.
