POSITION SUMMARY

As integral members of UCLA CAPS' multidisciplinary clinical team, CAPS Clinical Care Coordinators serve as highly specialized clinicians who support the full continuum of student mental health needs through advanced clinical triage, crisis intervention, complex care coordination, and operation leadership within the clinic. This role functions as a cross-functional clinician with flexible deployment across all core service areas. These clinicians serve as frontline decision makers for urgent student mental health concerns, operating in a high acuity, fast paced environment that requires independent clinical judgement, systems navigation, and collaboration across campus partners. Clinical Care Coordinators work closely with CAPS leadership to ensure seamless clinic operations and continuity of care across all service lines.

CAPS Clinical Care Coordinators are largely "on demand clinical responders" during business hours, managing evolving clinic needs and responding to students in distress through direct intervention and expert consultation to other providers, faculty, staff, and campus stakeholders. They provide same-day triage, crisis evaluation, risk assessment and intervention during designated triage hours CAPS triage hours and are instrumental in determining disposition, safety planning, hospitalization procedures, and linkage to appropriate levels of care. They possess the expertise and flexibility to assume any core clinical function within the center as operational needs arise, ranging from triage, case management, crisis intervention, managing psychiatric hospitalizations, providing interim or ongoing therapy, and delivering critical response and postvention services following campus crises of student tragedies.

With Lanterman Petris Short (LPS) designation, Clinical Care Coordinators hold advanced clinical authority to initiate involuntary hospitalization when requires, underscoring the high acuity decision-making and legal responsibility inherent in this role.

This role is responsible for comprehensive care coordination including:

- Managing complex cases that extend beyond CAPS' brief treatment model

- Facilitating referrals and warm handoffs to community providers and higher levels of care

- Conducting proactive outreach and follow-up to ensure continuity of care

- Serving as primary clinical contacts for designated high-need student populations, programs and satellite clinics

In addition, Clinical Care Coordinators provide clinical leadership and support to other CAPS teams by consulting on crisis management case disposition, care planning, and utilization of campus and community resources.

This full-time (40 hours/week) role adapts responsively to clinic demand. Triage responsibilities comprise approximately 50% of workload, increasing during peak academic periods and flexing downward during lower volume seasons, such as summer.

This position offers hybrid work options for both in person and remote work; after probation and credentialing and privileging processes are complete.  Employees will work fully in person until approved for hybrid work if desired.
