POSITION SUMMARY | Under the general supervision of the SR Stores Supervisor, this position supports the UCLA Distribution Services (Cylinder Management and Center for Health Sciences (CHS) Receiving dock) operations. Major job functions include receipt and delivery of freight, merchandise and packages; inventory, accounting for and movement of compressed gas cylinders and research alcohol throughout UCLA campus, research, and hospital facilities. Principal equipment operation is a 10-ton truck requiring a class B license including Air Brakes and Hazardous Material endorsements. With a strong emphasis on safety and customer service, this position requires industry specific knowledge and supports both campus customers and those located within the UCLA Health System. | | | |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Delivery of Product to Customer | 1.Shipments: a.Record deliveries on daily route sheets. (E) b.Transport deliveries to designated departments using carts, pallet jacks, dollies, vans, and trucks. (E) c.Deliver shipments to addressed recipient. (E) d.Obtain signature on delivery route sheet for acceptance of shipment (or electronic signature). (E) e.Return signed paperwork to office (or transmit signature if utilizing device) for proper documentation. (E) f.For delivery of large pieces of equipment such as furniture, refrigerators, and freezers, assist with unpacking and removal of packing materials, pallets, etc. (E) g.If undeliverable, then move perishables to cold storage area pending delivery and move theft sensitive equipment /merchandise to secure caged area pending pick-up or re-delivery. (E) 2.Compressed Gas Cylinders: a.Place cylinders in proper locations as requested by customers. (E) b.As necessary relocate, disconnect, and reconnect cylinders following proper safety procedures. (E) c.Remove empty cylinders. (E) d.Verify cylinder markings and record cylinders-in and cylinders-out by scanning tracking barcodes. Report and document any found issues. (E) 3. Maintain general vehicle maintenance such as refueling, checking fluid levels, and general cleaning. (E) 4. Maintain and understand all safety regulations as it pertains to hazardous materials in general and specifically compressed cylinder gases. (E) 5. Obey all UCPD, DMV, DOT, TSA and CHP regulations in operation of Cylinder Management vehicles. (E) 6. Maintain valid Class B license with Air Brakes and Hazardous Material endorsements through timely recertification and continued working knowledge of all applicable rules and regulations. (E) 7. Maintain TSA Certification for the transportation of Hazardous Material. (E) 8. Communicate with fellow drivers any special instructions, road conditions, or changes as it pertains to campus/department delivery procedures. (E) 9. Maintain Cylinder Management vehicle cab in a neat, orderly, and safe manner. (E) 10. Adhere to recommended fleet services vehicle maintenance schedules as provided. (E) 11. (E) f.Identify, mark, and sort perishable and time-sensitive freight. (E) 2.Shipments Outbound: a.Pick-up shipments for outbound shipping per customer requests. (E) b.             Ascertain that proper paperwork accompanies freight to allow for proper processing. (E) c.As necessary, utilize shipping system to properly produce shipping label. (E) d.             Stage items for pick-up from vendor. (E) 3.             Compressed Gas Cylinders Inbound: a.Check for accuracy of delivery. (E) b.Scan barcode tracking into inventory. (E) c.             Segregate and place into stock yard following proper safety protocol for storage.
