POSITION SUMMARY | Under the general supervision of the Principal Auto Equipment-Supervisor, provide driver services of paratransit van(s), light duty vehicles, passenger vans, and/or cars to transport students, staff, and faculty, including those with permanent and temporary mobility impairments, needing assistance getting to/from campus locations and adjacent residential areas on scheduled routes. | | | |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Route Operations | 1. Safely operate University vehicles adhering to Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)/CHP regulations, University and Transit Operations policies and procedures. This includes paratransit vehicles, light duty vehicles (passenger vans and sedans), and specialty vehicles as directed. (E) 2. Provide driver services for various paratransit services including BruinAcess and SafeRide. (E) 3. Perform pre-trip safety inspections, including cleaning and maintenance of paratransit and light duty vehicle(s) prior to going in-service to identify potential or actual maintenance/safety problems and complete associated logs. Pre-trip safety inspections may include inspection of exterior, front end, and interior. (E) 4. Perform electric vehicle charging process for paratransit and light duty vehicle(s) at the end of each shift to meet time fill requirements. (E) 5. Maintain statistical logs that are required by Transit Management for specific information pertaining to ridership statistics, mileage, vehicle condition, and route effectiveness, etc. (E) 6. Operate two-way radio and/or cellular phone for communicating with supervisor(s) and/or other operators. (E) 7. Provide customer assistance to passengers regarding paratransit services, route information, campus directions and building locations in courteous, professional manner. (E) 8. Participate in ongoing training/certification programs sponsored by Transit, such as use of wheelchair lifts and ramps; electric vehicle charging procedures; and driver safety training, to include defensive driving skills, emergency operations, accident prevention, and customer service.
