POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Director of Football Equipment Operations is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the equipment and apparel needs for the UCLA Football program.  This position will be under the general supervision of the Head Football Coach and report directly to the Assistant Athletic Director, Equipment Operations working specifically with the Bruin football program. Total number of individuals that you are responsible for equipping and outfitting; includes approximately 120 student-athletes, 11 coaches and over 30 support staff.  A successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management of the football equipment room, including procurement, logistics, monitoring inventory levels, and distributing all equipment and apparel for the UCLA football program.  The Senior Director will play an integral role as a member of the equipment department when it comes to building and maintaining relationships with vendors and the school's shoe and apparel partner.  Other duties include tracking of all items, locker room maintenance, facility upkeep, ensuring the safety of team issued gear and practice and training items, as well as oversight of staff issued apparel.  Position will serve as the primary contact for the setup of on and off campus team practices as well as the timely and efficient transportation of athletic equipment, uniforms and necessary apparel to all athletic contests – both at home at the Rose Bowl, on the road, and potentially off-site training camp locations.  Duties will also include hiring and training student managers, assisting with recruiting and camp operational needs, and daily laundry services to meet team needs.

 • Collaborate with Head Football Coach, Football Chief of Staff, Assistant Athletic Director, Equipment Operations, and department staff to review team requests and needs during championship and non-championship season, recruiting periods, and team related activities and workouts.

 • Fit all athletes with proper equipment/apparel, insuring their maximum protection, fit, size, and proper appearance.  This includes helmets, pads, cleats, and uniform.

 • Understand current equipment and apparel for inventory and ordering needs of product for current and future use.

 • Serve as the FB team’s main point of contact with shoe and apparel provider.  Work within provided parameters to determine and coordinate efficient and effective use of team’s provided allotment for student-athletes, coaches & staff.

Football Equipment & Apparel

Research and review new equipment offerings to determine its suitability for the Football program.

 • Supervise the receipt, issuance, and storage of practice and competition equipment/apparel and the return after appropriate use.

 • Provide service to the Bruin football program with the highest level of service and professionalism.

 • Collaborate with Head Football Coach, Football Chief Of Staff to determine practice and game day staff and team attire in conjunction with shoe and apparel partner.

 • Inspect all equipment and apparel regularly for any maintenance issues and determine if repairable.  Make repairs as needed.

 • Anticipate seasonal requirements and weather conditions for special equipment needs during season and off-season.

Equipment Purchasing & Procurement

Collaborate with Business and Finance staff to place all necessary orders of goods and apparel.

Understand current shoe and apparel contract and the various aspects of team related needs with all needed vendors.

Determine proper lead time needed and prepare requisitions for all equipment and apparel.

Review and maintain proper budget utilizing resources in most efficient manner possible.

Ensure completion of all purchase order requests to ensure fiscally responsibility orders and timely submission of all purchase orders, receipt of goods and/or services, including the processing and payment of invoices.

Equipment Purchasing & Procurement

Collaborate with the Head Football Coach, Football Chief Of Staff, and Assistant Athletic Director, Equipment Operations on the long term facility, apparel, and equipment needs for the football program. 

Ensure prompt delivery of all goods needed and rectify all delivery/damage problems that may arise.  Follow up on late deliveries.

Storage & Inventory

 • Understand and comply with department standards in terms of Inventory policy.

 • Manage the stocking and storage of equipment and apparel using provided storage capacities.

 • Perform pre and post season inventory of all team issued apparel and training equipment.

 • Keep detailed inventory records on all items received, issued, distributed and returned.

 • Responsible for the control and protection from theft of all items within area.

 • Work with staff to issue, track and tax distributed items in conjunction with campus and department policy.

 • Develop an inventory of all equipment as well as a maintenance and replacement plan for major equipment and facility related items.

Equipment Transportation & Maintenance

 • Pack all equipment and apparel required for each game and / or offsite practice, including but not limited to the Rose Bowl, road games, bowl games and pre-season team practices, as needed. 

 • Collaborate with operations staff, shipping company, and designated staff at destination to ensure delivery times and locations, anticipating any traffic or logistical concerns as best as possible.

 • Serve as a point of contact on game day for additional team service needs (headset communications and sideline heaters/coolers) and collaborate with game operations staff to execute team needs.

 • Supervise and participate in the loading/unloading of equipment at each site and setup/breakdown to accommodate all team related needs.

Equipment Transportation & Maintenance

 • Upon arrival, set up equipment and apparel at designated site.

 • During competition, insure all equipment is properly fit for student-athletes.  Monitor equipment constantly for breakage and/or flaws.  Repair and change as required.

 • Prepare all gear for return, inventory and maintenance.

 • Coordinate with moving company to ensure that Equipment moving van is scheduled and on time for packing and delivery.

Football Equipment Room Administration

 • Supervise 1 full-time employee and up to numerous student managers at any one time, including potential day of game staffing.  Hire, schedule, train and evaluate employee on a timely basis.

 • In conjunction with the Head Football Coach, Football Chief Of Staff, Football Sport Supervisor and Assistant Athletic Director, Equipment Operations, develop area budget and long range planning.

 • Contribute to the planning, review, and forecasting of equipment budgets for Football.

 • Work with camp office and football staff regarding potential needs for summer camp operations.

 • Assign lockers and locks to student athletes, coaches and staff in designated areas.

 • Responsible for the custodial and key access management of the equipment/locker areas.

 • Attend trade shows and conferences and meet with vendors to maintain current knowledge of the equipment business as it pertains to the football program, as needed.

 • Maintain and upkeep football equipment room and locker room area as well as all team and facility related equipment.
