POSITION SUMMARY | Under the general supervision of the Head Men's Basketball Coach and the Men's Basketball Assistant General Manager, and in collaboration with the coaching staff, the Director of Player Development & Data Analytics is responsible for the integration and application of advanced performance data, scouting reports, and video analysis to enhance individual player growth and team strategy. This position plays a critical role in preparing the program for competition at the highest collegiate level by analyzing player performance, evaluating opponents, and assisting in the design of training programs. The incumbent will work independently to implement best practices in player development, analytics, and scouting in alignment with UCLA's standards of excellence and compliance with NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and University policies. The incumbent may also assist the coaching staff with administrative duties that enhance the student-athlete experience. | | | |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Player Development & Performance Analytics | • Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of player performance metrics using industry-leading data and video technologies. • Develop individualized training plans for student-athletes based on objective performance data and trends. • Provide regular reports to coaching staff to guide decisions on skill development, practice priorities, and game-day strategy. • Integrate biomechanics, swing/pitch analysis, and defensive metrics into player evaluations. • Track and present season-long and career performance data for each player. • Assist in the coordination of on-campus recruiting presentations related to player development resources. • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive student-athlete performance data and team strategies. | 50% | Opponent Scouting & Game Preparation | • Produce detailed opponent scouting reports noting tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses. • Analyze opponent video and statistical trends to inform game plans. • Collaborate with the coaching staff to design strategies tailored to each opponent. • Maintain a comprehensive scouting database for Big Ten and NCAA opponents. | 30% | Technology & Data Management | • Manage and maintain all software, video systems, and analytical tools used by the program. • Ensure accurate data entry, tagging, and archiving of practice and game video. • Troubleshoot and resolve technology issues related to video or statistical systems. | 15% | Rules Compliance | • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.” • The DIA is governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and University of California System.
