POSITION SUMMARY | The UCLA CAPS Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program is one-year part-time non-accredited psychiatry training program which provides specialized advanced training for psychiatrists in the evaluation and management of college mental health. The fellowship usually starts on August 1 and ends on July 31. The incumbent supports the mission of UCLA Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and the University in providing the highest quality mental health services for the wide range of students at UCLA. The incumbent provides medical services to clients including evaluations, medication management, emergency intervention; provides consultation to non-psychiatric staff; participates in meetings and committees; carries out necessary charting requirements; and accepts overall direction from the Fellowship Director. | | | |
Department Summary | Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) services are designed to foster the development of healthy well-being necessary for success in a complex global environment. We are pleased to offer a variety of services to meet your needs including: Crisis counseling available by phone 24 hours a day/7 days a week, Emergency intervention, Individual counseling and psychotherapy, Group therapy, Psychiatric evaluation and treatment, Psychoeducational programs and workshops for students, staff and faculty, and Campus mental health and wellness promotion. |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Clinical Training Duties | Provides psychiatric evaluation and treatment planning for students with a full range of mental health concerns, including prescribes psychiatric medications and provides medication management. Initiate arrangements for patients requiring hospitalization or admission to the emergency room and provides emergency services to severely disturbed patients, including suicidal and psychotic students, including after-hours when contacted. Also provides psychiatric back-up to Department's emergency OD system. | 60% | Educational | Attends weekly psychiatry case conference, weekly therapy case conference and other didactics where available. | 20% | Consultation | Provide consultation to CAPS non-psychiatric staff regarding patient management. Provide consultation and liaison to SHS non-psychiatric physicians. Provide liaison with emergency room and UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital.
