POSITION SUMMARY

In support of Undergraduate Admission (UA) efforts to meet UCLA's annual new student recruitment and enrollment goals, the Admissions Officer assists in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of new student recruitment and yield activities, and participates in application review. The primary objective of the position is to stimulate and motivate an academically competitive, talented and ethnically, geographically, and socio-economically diverse applicant pool of California resident, domestic non-resident and international students and assist these students through the admission and enrollment process. In the course of performing the job duties, the Admission Officer will drive to visit community colleges in California (locally), providing substantive information about UCLA specifically, and the University of California generally (as required). Provide information on admissions requirements, processes and deadlines; financial aid; housing; and, campus services. While the Admissions Officer may be assigned a specific target population and may specialize in that area, it is expected that the incumbent will be sufficiently well-versed to work with a variety of prospective student audiences. Maintain a full schedule of school/college visits, making oral presentations and conducting workshops. Represent UA/UCLA in special joint programs with schools, colleges, and UC campuses. Advise prospective applicants and parents. Cultivate, establish and maintain working relations with counselors, administrators, and other school personnel. Under direction and guidance and based on analysis, recommends, designs and participates in activities developed to increase the yield of highly able and other target recruitment populations. Participate in application review providing information on targeted schools, and by reading applications, assessing applicant academic performance, and recommending admission using established guidelines.

Recruitment Relationship Development

Generate a Diverse and Talented Applicant Pool and Assist in Meeting Campus Enrollment Goals:  AI. Communicate the UCLA message to prospective applicants. The Admissions Officer will represent UCLA and the University of California at community colleges and community-based programs in California, across the U.S. and internationally, making small and large group presentations on the value and distinctive benefits of a UCLA undergraduate education, i.e. academic programs and related opportunities, campus life, student development, return on investment of a UCLA education, and will provide critical and time-sensitive information on preparing for competitive admission to UCLA, the application procedures and key deadlines. (E)  AII. Application generation and management. Assist in the design, planning and implementation of a strategic recruitment plan for an assigned geographic market and/or target populations.(E) Activities include:  (a) Participate in the development and refinement of annual campus recruitment planning based on an informed understanding of recent student enrollment patterns, a review of area community colleges, demographic characteristics of prospective applicants, and other available data in accordance with campus priorities and established guidelines and procedures.(E)  (b) Provide own transportation to perform school visits to assigned community colleges; staff information tables at college fairs and transfer days; participate in focused recruitment programs and area receptions for targeted populations, and telemarketing programs, web conferencing, phone campaigns, and more.(E)  (c) Cultivate and nurture effective professional relationships with counselors, administrators, faculty and school staff. Conduct counselor in-service training sessions at designated schools, updating counselors on UCLA programs and new initiatives, and changes in UC and UCLA admissions policies and procedures, as necessary. (E)  (d) Liaison with volunteers in various programs for recruitment and yield activities e.g. UCLA student initiated outreach; outreach groups for transfer students; community college Transfer Centers; Partnership collaboration with UCLA departments, to ensure that admissions messages and priorities are clearly and accurately articulated and supported throughout the admissions process and to integrate the efforts of these programs in support of the enrollment of targeted audiences. May also coordinate activities with various campus partners such as Center for Community College Partnerships, Transfer Student Center, Bruin Resource Center, etc. and other stakeholders, including but not limited to academic units, to advance campus enrollment goals.(E)  (e) Contributes to the development and implementation of workshops that provide substantive information on admissions requirements, academic preparation, school/college programs and curricula, financial aid, housing and student services. Recommend new workshops, or modifications to current workshops, based on analysis of data for current workshops and results. Workshops include, but are not limited to, transfer and freshman application workshops. (E)  (f) Possibly assist with limited freshman recruitment efforts.  AIII. Utilizing the same analytic tools used for recruitment planning, recommend, help design and participate in yield activities for targeted populations.(E)

Prospective Student Data Management

Generate a Diverse and Talented Applicant Pool and assist in meeting campus enrollment goals:  BI. Application generation and management. Assist in the design, planning and implementation of a strategic recruitment plan for an assigned geographic market and/or target populations.(E) Activities include:  (a) Utilize Undergraduate Admission customer relationship management system (i.e. Slate) to provide customized communications to prospective students in targeted regions and programs; to track their interest in the University; and, to help them move through the admissions process. Provide individualized and group information regarding admission/selection, college opportunities and support services, financial aid, housing and all aspects of pre and post admission process. (E)  (b) Utilize prospect database for assigned population(s) to monitor recruitment and yield activities, i.e. to measure progress of applications, admits and enrollees, to evaluate effectiveness of current effort, and to facilitate future planning. Based on analysis of data, exercises initiative in identifying and recommending potential new programs and/or strategies and activities in areas of assigned responsibility to address emerging needs related to meeting campus enrollment goals. (E)  (c) Serve on UCOP system-wide committees related to recruitment activities. Assist in development of programs and workshops used system-wide, such as UC Counselor Conferences, as needed. (E)  (d) Develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date reports on all school and college visits and recruitment programs in specific area of responsibility to facilitate planning for future admissions cycles. Program Development and Support Responsibilities

CI. Coordinate and take a lead role in implementing selected programs; serve as team leader, as appropriate. Programs include but are not limited to: STOMP, Bruin Academic Experience Program. (E)Duties include:  (a) Develop budget proposal for proposed activities. (E) (b) Plan facility use (at UCLA or off campus). (E)  (c) Invite speakers, often interacting with administrators, faculty, Deans, staff from a broad variety of UCLA offices. (E)  (d) Draft publications and invitations. (E) (e) Recruit, hire, train and supervise student support staff.(E) (f) Evaluate program effectiveness.(E)  (g) Provide written reports on specific areas of responsibility.(E)  CII. May act as a liaison with targeted community groups and be responsible for recommending, designing, and implementing focused recruitment and yield activities to educate prospective students, their parents, counselors, faculty and community members about opportunities at and admission to UCLA. (E)

Admissions and Evaluation

DI. Participate in applicant selection: exercises professional judgment in reviewing, evaluating and recommending applicants for admission using established guidelines. Consults with experienced staff when reviewing more complex applications.(E) 

DII. Review academic performance for recruited applicants and make evaluations recommendations to the Director for admission based on acquired knowledge of specific school context for non-California schools.(E) 

DIII. Participate in planning meetings for the admission selection process. Make recommendations for process, guidelines team make-up. (E) 

DIV. Participate in other evaluation projects such as reviewing Provisional Problem Forms (PPF) and verification of college transcripts.(E)
