Department Summary | The Epidemiology department in the Fielding School of Public Health is a national leader in preparing a new generation of epidemiologists. Through specialized methodologies, epidemiologists identify, track, and analyze how diseases and other conditions are caused, transmitted, and prevented, as well as how they are distributed throughout the population. Such information plays a critical role in guiding policies and other evidence-based strategies to promote health and work toward health equity. The vital importance of epidemiologic research was highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, in which epidemiologists have helped to track outbreaks and provide guidance on how the virus spreads in community settings. |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Recruitment and Data Collection,Cleaning & entry | 1. Assist with research projects 2. Conduct monthly trips to California's central valley to interview study subjects (Parkinson's Disease cases and population controls). 3. Assist in collection of data through interviews in English and Spanish, questionnaires and letters to collect data 4. Recruit, screen and enroll potential subjects in studies. 5. Accompany subjects to their appointments. 6. Assist in training team member on recruitment and data collection | 40% | Data cleaning and entry | 1. Record and enter data into computer using Microsoft Access and RedCAP. 2. Manage and track the storage and distribution of biological samples. 3. Data checking of folders and files for accuracy. 4. Enter, clean, edit and back up data and perform other technical tasks as needed. 5. Assist in training team member students on data entry and cleaning. | 40% | Administrative Support | 1.
