POSITION SUMMARY | At the direction of the Dean and in consultation with academic leadership and campus authorities, the incumbent advances the goals and objectives of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. As Associate Dean and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the incumbent plans, directs, and evaluates the School's business and financial operations to support informed decision-making. The role ensures compliance with University policies, audit standards, internal controls, and all applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the incumbent serves as a strategic partner to the Dean, providing high-level support for initiatives, acting as a primary liaison and trusted advisor, and ensuring the Dean is fully prepared for meetings, follow-ups, strategic engagements, and organizational priorities. The position requires familiarity with the entertainment arts industry and a strong interest in its evolving practices. Responsibilities encompass the Dean's Office as well as the Department of Theater and the Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Financial / Budget Management | The incumbent is responsible for the following areas: 1. Organization-wide financial, budgetary, space, including research and analysis, written plans, effective presentation, follow-through and updating. Involves consultation across the organization and with campus and relevant outside sources. 2. Financial and budgetary management, including financial reporting, supervision of procurement program, payroll and ledger reconciliation, and analysis and revision of plans to meet emerging requirements. Supervision of the School Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Liaison with Corporate Finance, Central Administration, Audit and Advisory Services, Contract and Grant Services and other offices. | 30% | | FISCAL Responsibility: Approve reports of annual revenue/expenditures by fund source (e.g. departmental funds, contracts and grants, income) and FTE's for the preceding fiscal year and current fiscal year. | 0% | Human Resources Management | 1. Direct a human resources program, including recruitment, hiring, staff direction and supervision, training and development, evaluation, and corrective action. Also includes staff and organizational analysis, and realignment to meet budgetary and functional needs. Consultation with Department Chairs and HR Director on staffing issues. Liaison with Campus Human Resources, Staff Affirmative Action and other relevant offices. 2. Direct supervision of management, support and specialized staff, to include elements (outlined in 3), to meet organizational goals and objectives. | 25% | Facilities and Operations | 1. Direction of facilities, equipment and capital programs, including space planning and allocation, renovation, IT impact, and inventory. Liaison with Capital Programs, Facilities Management, ITS and other related offices. 2. Management of logistics, directly and through other staff, including safety, and emergency preparedness. Liaison with Office of the Registrar, Environmental Health and Safety, UC Police Department, Facilities Management, Events Management, Insurance and Risk Management, and others. | 25% | Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects | 1. Manage special projects on behalf of the Dean, frequently involving faculty and/or senior officers of the University and members of the Dean's leadership team; accompany the Dean to designated internal and external meetings and engagements. Conduct follow up on behalf of the Dean; monitor progress toward the attainment of assigned goals and activities. 2. Assess and prioritize matters needing the Dean's attention. Handle queries, questions, and requests on behalf of the Dean working to solve problems, direct other offices to respond to constituents, and work proactively with issues and people. Resolve problems or refer them to appropriate school and University offices. | 20% | | 3. Serve as the Dean's primary liaison with the School's faculty, staff, student governance groups, Central Administration and the community at large; coordinate communication between the Dean and other senior officers of the University. 4. Manage and work with Marketing and Communications staff on message strategies and consistency, and prepare and coordinate special correspondence for the Dean. 5. Oversee Dean’s calendar and travel management (conducted by the Dean’s Executive Assistant). 6. Review and edit external communications, prepare presentations and analyses as needed. 7.
