GENERAL DIRECTION - Indicates that the incumbent receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing the methods to attain them. Generally the incumbent is in charge of an area of work, and typically formulates policy for this area but does not necessarily have final authority for approving policy.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of the South-Central Youth Coalition is responsible for overseeing the project's strategic direction, operations, and overall performance. This role ensures the fulfillment of the project's mission, vision, and goals. They will bring a minimum of 15 years of direct experience in Youth Organizing, Community Health programs, and leadership in Southeast Los Angeles. The Director managers the program, is responsible for operations, financial management, and staff leadership. The Director will have launched organizations and built coalitions, and driven policy initiatives. They will be a skilled leader, persuasive communicator and storyteller, and effective project manager who will have the ability to shepherd the project's short-term and long-term goals. They will have at least five years of prior experience working with UCLA and the Center for Developing Leadership in Science.

1. Recruit, select, train, and supervise student workers.

2. Oversee the development and maintenance of internal systems, policies, and procedures that support effective operations.

3. Ensure sound financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

4. Hire, lead, develop, and evaluate staff/fellows.

5. Establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with a diverse community of colleagues

6. Oversee day-to-day programming and operations to ensure initiative governance effectiveness and efficiency.

7. Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders.

8. Ability to handle difficult or urgent matters with confidence and proficiency.

Strategic Leadership

1. Provide visionary leadership to the team, cultivating a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

2. Report regularly on organizational progress, challenges, and opportunities.

3. Develop stakeholder relation operations including public speaking, thought-leadership, and the development and maintenance of relationships with key university officials and departments, community-based organizations, partner institutions and elected officials.

Fundraising and Development

1. Lead fundraising efforts, including donor relations, grant writing, and sponsorships.

2. Explore and negotiate partnership agreements, sponsorships, or in-kind contributions.

3. Conceptualize and implement a development strategy and donor campaigns with the Director of Development including donor campaigns

4. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce proposals for planned gifts or comparable solicitations and a variety of marketing materials as needed.

1. Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders.
