POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Academic Personnel Director, the Senior Academic Human Resources Analyst will administer the hiring process of the Law School's non-ladder faculty. The Law School currently houses 20 academic units with 60 ladder faculty and 40 non-ladder appointments and is expected to aggressively expand its academic program presence over the next three years. This involves incorporating short-course programs at the end of each semester to allow students to take a higher course load in a shorter period of time. In order to accomplish this, the Law School anticipates an increase of 12 new non-ladder faculty hires over the period of the next three years. Incumbent will develop a strategy for the recruitment and retention of non-ladder faculty that is reflective of the long-range objectives of the Law School.

RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION

1. Make recommendations to Law School senior executives on the appointments of new non-ladder Academic Personnel. (E)  2. Strategically allocate resources available for non-ladder faculty, including the awarding of housing loans as a recruitment tool for new hires. (E)  3. Serve as a liaison with central university units to conduct faculty searches and solicit waivers to limit faculty searches as deemed necessary. (E)  4. Prepare letters for the Vice or Associate Dean requesting evaluations of the scholarship and teaching for non-ladder faculty candidates, from external reviewers, adhering to academic personnel deadlines. (E) 5. Utilizing the Dossier Action Tracking (DAT) system, create new internal procedures or processes to facilitate the input of data and to meet academic personnel deadlines. Troubleshoot system glitches in collaboration with the Academic Personnel Director. (E)

COMPENSATION AND REVIEW PROCESS

1. Taking into account academic personnel policies and procedures regarding compensation, calculate by-agreement payments,  ninths, or split appointments to compensate personnel in these series for overload teaching. (E)  2. Ensure appropriate and correct determination of salary levels and oversee the resolution of all salary issues. (E)  3. Conduct analysis for presentation to the Dean, Associate Dean, Vice Deans, and Faculty Advisory Committee on salary recommendations with regard to faculty advancements. (E)  4. Provide analysis and counsel to the CAO, CFO, and the Dean in strategic planning with regard to academic funds reserved for non-ladder faculty, including short-term and long-term projections of FTE using the Campus Faculty Renewal Model. (E)

EMPLOYEE SERVICES

1. Consult with part-time non-ladder faculty regarding policies and procedures related to the academic review process and other leaves of absence, salary and payroll issues, employee benefits, the University of California Retirement Programs, and other issues related to academic employment. (E) 2. Respond to requests by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) union, and the UAW (representing Postdocs and Researchers)   for information regarding Non-senate Faculty (part-time lecturers), Postdocs and Researchers, or to grievances filed by bargaining units on behalf of a particular employee. (E) 3. Liaison with Labor Relations and the Academic Personnel Office to aid in the resolution of grievances and identify means of avoiding conflicts specifically related to the non-ladder faculty, postdoc, and researcher populations, actively participating in investigations or disciplinary actions when appropriate. 4. Attend meetings and trainings with Labor Relations and Academic Personnel, strategizing on responses to union and PERB inquiries, making recommendations on behalf of senior management reporting up to the Dean (E). 5. Research and compile comprehensive records on all non-ladder academic personnel. (E)
